The Electoral Commission of Ghana says it has identified the account behind the illegal transfer of some 38 votes in Pusiga, in the Upper East Region.
At an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, the EC said its investigation has uncovered a scheme involving the unauthorized transfer of votes in the Pusiga District.
The case, according to the EC, was initially reported by the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission.
According to the EC’s findings, the perpetrators exploited the absence of a “liveliness check,” a security feature that verifies whether an image being used is of a real, live person.
Instead, the perpetrator used photos from Voter ID cards to facilitate the transfer process without the consent of the 38 voters.
The perpetrator behind the unauthorized transfers is assisting with investigations, the EC said.
As a corrective measure, the EC has reversed all 38 unsolicited transfers.
To prevent future occurrences, the commission has implemented liveliness checks in both the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) and Biometric Verification Devices (BVD).
These added security measures are expected to enhance the integrity of the electoral process.
The EC however did not reveal the identity of the perpetrator involved in the illegality.
