The Chief Executive Officer of NG Mining Company, Nana Gyau Baffour, is warning President Akufo-Addo not to try to place a ban on mining in the country.
The government is under intense pressure to ban small-scale mining.
Among the groups advocating for this action are the GMA, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA), and the Health Services Workers Union of Ghana (TUC).
This urgent appeal stems from the escalating destruction of the nation’s forest reserves and water bodies, as well as the significant public health and environmental risks posed by illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Responding to the calls by the unions on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Nana Gyau threatened that the government would not like the outcome if it places a ban on mining activities.
