The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) assertion of generating 2.1 million jobs between 2017 and 2022.
During a visit to the Ahafo Region, NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama accused the NPP of spreading misinformation to sway voters.
The NPP has been showcasing its accomplishments in various sectors, including job growth, as part of its reelection campaign.
However, Mahama argued that under the NPP’s administration, the unemployment rate has actually risen from 8% during the NDC’s term to nearly 15%.
He questioned the validity of the 2 million job figure, noting that many individuals in the region have not experienced the alleged benefits.
Mahama also stressed the importance of establishing a 24-hour economy to generate more employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
“We cannot be deceived any more. We’ll create jobs for the youth to be employed. The unemployment rate during the NDC’s government was 8%. However, the current unemployment rate under the NPP government is 14%, which is almost 15%. But this government claimed they have created over 2 million jobs,” he stated.
“I’m asking, where are the jobs? How come the people here have not benefited from them? This is a tactic to win votes. That is why the NDC government has proposed a 24-hour economy, which will create more job opportunities,” he added.
