Adams Bonaa, a Security Analyst, has warned of potential chaos if President Nana Akufo-Addo attempts to dismiss the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, before the upcoming general election.
Bonaa believes that the tension in Ghana is palpable and any such action could be the spark that sets off unrest.
With the country gearing up for the general elections, the ruling New Patriotic Party is determined to secure a third term. Many suspect that the government may try to manipulate the election by making changes in the top ranks of the security service to its advantage.
It would be recalled that a leaked audio recording revealed the former regional chairman of the NPP, Bugri Naabu, discussing plans to oust the current IGP, Akuffo Dampare.
Despite reports from dailyguidenetwork.com on June 30, 2024, suggesting that Dr. George Akufo Dampare had been asked to take leave and hand over his duties to his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the police service denied these claims.
In response, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a warning against any efforts to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Expressing his worry about the controversy regarding the IGP, Akuffo Dampare, in a conversation with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Adam Bonaa indicated he doesn’t believe the president will remove the IGP because any attempt to do so could bring chaos and bloodbath in the country.
