In an effort to enhance the quality of education in Buluk, the chiefs of the Builsa Traditional Area have united in urging the local community to refrain from establishing drinking bars in close proximity to schools.
They emphasize that the disruptive nature of these establishments is incongruent with the conducive environment required for effective teaching and learning.
The chiefs made the call at a three-day workshop organized by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for stakeholders in the Builsa North Municipality.
During a group work session on how to support education delivery in the Municipality, the chiefs, including the Wiaga chief, Siniesi chief, Chuchuliga chief, and representatives from Sandema and Kadema chiefs, emphasized the importance of this issue.
Mr. Adangabey Kennedy Ayuegabey, who represented the Kadema chief, noted during the presentation on behalf of the Chiefs that they plan to introduce and enforce bylaws that will close down existing drinking spots near schools in the various communities in Buluk.
Mr. Ayuegabey appealed to drinking bar operators to stop selling alcoholic drinks to children, expressing regret that some operators disregard cultural norms and conscience for the sake of profit.
The Chiefs are seeking support for their initiative to improve the delivery of quality education in the Municipality.
