The Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Samuel Pyne, has disclosed the amount of money contained in the white envelope which Kwadaso MP, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, gave to the EC officials at a polling station during the Ejisu By-election.
Professor Kingsley Nyarko was captured on camera handing an envelope to two Electoral Commission (EC) officials at the Church of Pentecost Polling Station in Fumesua during the Ejisu by-election on Tuesday.
Following this incident, the Commission has taken action by suspending the two officials and has called for a criminal investigation into their actions.
The individuals involved, Regina Serwaa (Ballot Issuer and Presiding Officer) and George Sasu, were immediately removed from their positions after the incident was broadcasted live on television.
During a discussion with Akua Asiedua on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Mayor revealed that EC officials may sometimes seek assistance.
“The EC officials at the polling station can also ask for food. Now, when anyone sees a politician, the person wants to collect something, and it has become a part of us. Do we give bribes to the electoral commission at polling stations? Then such a person is not a politician.”
“The envelope only contained GHc200. Didn’t you see the envelope was flat?.” He quizzed.
