Isaac Tekpe, the District Manager of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Akim Oda, located in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, has issued a crucial warning to pedestrians.
According to him, pedestrians should refrain from engaging in social media activities or making phone calls while walking on the roads.
Speaking to the media following a visit from the DVLA Board of Directors to the Akyem Oda DVLA office, Mr. Tekpe emphasized the dangers of distracted walking.
He highlighted that individuals who are preoccupied with their phones or social media tend to lose awareness of their surroundings, putting themselves at risk of accidents.
Mr. Tekpe expressed concern over incidents where pedestrians have been struck by vehicles due to their lack of attention.
In addition to cautioning pedestrians, Mr. Tekpe also addressed drivers, urging them to avoid unnecessary speeding and reckless overtaking.
He emphasized the importance of driving safely, especially considering the poor conditions of many roads in the country.
Furthermore, Mr. Tekpe advised car owners to ensure that their vehicles are in proper working condition before hitting the road.
He specifically mentioned the importance of functioning horns, as they play a crucial role in alerting other drivers and pedestrians of their presence.
