Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, experienced a humiliating defeat in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries after losing her candidacy bid.
Residents of the constituency expressed their dissatisfaction with her performance, leading to her unexpected exit from the race.
A video captured by Oyerepa News the moment when Morrison faced a barrage of boos, mockery, and shame from constituents as she left the voting center.
The residents pointed to her alleged failure to establish a positive legacy in the constituency as the primary reason for her defeat.
In the video, Morrison is shown being escorted to her car amidst a chorus of hooting and jeering from the crowd. Some individuals can be heard explicitly stating, “If you had a good legacy, you would have won,” while another voice added, “Shame.”

Cynthia Morrison suffered a defeat in the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary that took place on Saturday, April 13, 2024. She received 152 votes, while Christopher Arthur emerged victorious with 240 votes to become the Parliamentary Candidate. The election was held at Otabilkrom Astroturf in Agona Swedru.
Ben Yamoah came in third with 221 votes, followed by Yawson Otoo with 168 votes, and Joseph Afrankwa with 155 votes.
Cynthia Morrison, a two-term MP, had previously won the seat in the 2016 elections. She faced competition from Charles Obeng-Inkoom of the National Democratic Congress and Evans Idan Coffie of the Convention People’s Party.
In the 2020 election, Morrison received 30,513 votes out of a total of 59,193 valid votes cast. Her main opponent, Paul Ofori-Amoah of the National Democratic Congress, secured 27,673 votes, while independent candidate Ishmael Kofi Tekyi Turkson received 1,007 votes.
