Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of the Public Relations unit at the Ghana Education Service (GES), has announced that 90% of laptops have been successfully delivered to teachers in schools across Ghana.
The Ghana Education Service initiated the One-teacher One-laptop project, with phase one launching on September 3, 2021. The goal was to complete this phase by December 17, 2021, paving the way for phases two and three for Junior High and Primary schools, set to begin in January 2022.
During an interview on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel on Tuesday, the PRO elaborated on the progress of the project. While the target has not yet been fully met, approximately 90% of the laptops have been distributed to teachers, totalling 252,794 out of the 280,000 intended for teachers in various senior schools.
“We have delivered almost 90% of these laptops to teachers in the country …. We are delivering these laptops to 280,000 teachers but currently 252,794 teachers in all senior high schools in the country” she stated.
The Ministry is dedicated to promptly distributing laptops to teachers as part of this project, he emphasized.
She mentioned that her organization has already distributed approximately 90% of the total laptops to teachers in Senior High Schools as part of the first phase of the project.
In the meantime, some disgruntled members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) have criticized the laptops as inferior, as many teachers have been unable to use them for their intended purpose.
