The Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Energy has conducted an industrial tour of Strategic Mobilizations Limited (SML) to familiarize itself with and appreciate the work the company does. The Committee of Parliament visited the operation and data center in Tema to observe the work being done and report back to Parliament.
During the tour, the Committee visited the data operation center where the company manages a network of petroleum depots across the country and a meter reading center.
Following the meeting and tour, Chairman of the Mines and Energy Committee, Samuel Atta Akyea, addressed the media. He expressed the Committee’s appreciation for SML’s work as a world-class audit firm based on the records seen so far. However, he mentioned that the Committee would delve into more details as the report would be presented to the presidency.
Chairman Atta Akyea expressed concern that some individuals were criticizing a Ghanaian-owned company that was helping to mobilize revenue without fully understanding the company’s operations.
He commended the exceptional work of SML and announced that the House would invite the company to Parliament for a briefing. He was impressed by the world-class installations observed during the tour.
Currently, the President is awaiting an investigative audit by KPMG, focusing on compliance, contract necessity, performance, and the procurement process for selecting SML for their work.
Dr. Yaa Serwa Sarpong, Director of Support Services at SML, highlighted the company’s significant performance in the petroleum downstream sector. She emphasized that all industry stakeholders appreciate the company’s work, noting a substantial increase in taxation petroleum audit and revenue assurance.
She mentioned that SML’s records indicate that government revenue assurance from taxable petroleum products has increased from around 250 million liters to an average of 45-48 million liters.
