The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) have told Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei Mensah that they cannot be held responsible for the unstable power supply and distribution in the region.
The response follows an emergency meeting summoned by the Minister following unstable power supply in the region for several months without any clear communication from the power suppliers and distributors.
Last week, Dumsor discussion dominated political radio and television programs in the region prompting the regional minister to summon managers of ECG and GRIDCo for a meeting at the Ashanti regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) for briefing on the situation which the minister fears may be used as a campaign against his party.
Source among the attendees of the meeting disclosed to Kasapa News that “The regional minister invited ECG and GRIDCo managers for an emergency meeting. The minister wasn’t happy about the unstable power situation in the Ashanti region particularly during the peak period associated with the heat as a result of the harmattan weather’’ source said.
He added: ”we also briefed him about the situation which we cannot be blamed for. ECG is a distribution company. We only distribute what we receive from GRIDCo while GRIDCo also supplies what VRA and others produce. That’s what we told the minister’’ source explained.
The source further explained that ”all our distribution and supply equipment are intact without any fault affecting our operations in the region. At the moment we are hoping the power generators will produce more power for use to continue to meet the expectation of our consumers. Because the more they consume the more we generate revenue for their usage.”
