The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has issued a directive for the immediate apprehension of the Northern Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
This action comes as a result of the director’s failure to deposit GH¢160,000 of internally generated funds (IGF) into the designated Consolidated Fund Transit account of the Authority.
According to the 2022 Auditor General’s report, the Northern Regional Management of the Sports Authority has been cited for using the funds in violation of the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019.
The Northern Regional director of the NSA was summoned by the Public Accounts Committee to provide answers regarding this matter.
However, he failed to appear before the committee, prompting the committee chairman, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi, to order his arrest.
In light of this, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi stated, “We are instructing the police to immediately apprehend the regional director and accountant of the region. You were given the opportunity to come before Parliament, but you refused, fully aware that you had misused over GH¢160,000, thinking you could evade consequences.”
