The embatled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi is expected to appear before the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) today, Monday, Januray 29, 2024 in response to a summons.
The angry Kumasi Chiefs at an emergency meeting Chaired by Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia IV, last week Monday ordered the NPP General Secretary to produce Wontumi in the next seven days before the Traditional Council following his alleged disparaging comments against the Asantehene, Otmfuo Osei Tutu II.
The unfortunate incident happened during the party’s parliamentary vetting in Kumasi.
He was alleged to have said he has built his own kingdom in the region, so he is not afraid of anybody, including Otumfuo, a statement the chiefs consider an insult to the Ashanti King.
“I have built my own kingdom, I have my own police and military, and I will speak my mind to Otumfuo if I disagree on an issue with him (Otumfuo)”.
It is unclear what punitive action will be taken against the vociferous politician if found guilty by the Kumasi Traditional Council.
Chairman Wontumi will know his after he’s had an encounter with the obviously incensed Chiefs.
