Soldiers numbering Seven (7) believed to be from the Wa barracks are reported to have brutally assaulted a level 200 student of the Faculty of Planning and Land Management of the SD. Dombo University in Wa in the Upper West Region
This is said to have occurred on the 13th of January, 2024, at the Buggatti spot where the victim and his friends had visited.
According to the victim, the seven men prevented him from using a common pathway to the washroom and asked him to find another route. Upon asking why that should be, the seven men allegedly pounced on him, beat him to the ground and kicked him mercilessly for about 5 minutes, resulting in serious injuries to his eye, ribs, and head.
“We went to Buggati bar to buy coke, then after a while, two of us decided to go and urinate. Seven guys who claimed to be army men asked us not to use the route everyone used to access the washroom, and I asked why. They immediately jumped on me and started beating me up. They kicked me on the floor and stepped on me severely. They said we the university students were stubborn and they would show us”, he narrated his ordeal

An eyewitness disclosed to MyNewsGh.com that he was not surprised because he in 2023, the army also brutally assaulted people at the Maxisco bar after their colleague was defeated in a fight at the bar.

The victim whose identity has been concealed by the police who corroborated the incident, revealed that his shirt was soaked in blood as a result of bleeding and had to be rushed to Bamahu clinic for first aid.
The victim, in the company of an SRC representative, complained to the Wa District Police station and was given a hospital form to see a doctor.
The student explains that he is currently in deep pain and cannot attend lectures. He has so far revisited the hospital thrice just in 4 days.
While a police investigation is awaited, this incident is reminiscing of the army brutality on the people of Wa in the recent past, which is becoming one too many!
