A fatal crash on the Akyem Akroso-Asamankese road in the Eastern region on Sunday November 12,2023 has resulted in the loss of eight lives, leaving several others with severe injuries.
The crash occured when a White Toyota Hiace, bearing registration number GM 3150-13 and aboard with fifteen passengers from Bantama, a suburb of Akim Akroso in the Asene Manso Akroso district, collided with a Pontiac Vibe private car with registration number GG 3528-14 en route from Asamankese to Achiase.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted that the speeding Pontiac Vibe suffered a burst tyre, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the Toyota Hiace, leading to the fatal outcome.
Prompt response from emergency services saw the injured rushed to the Asamankese Government Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Bodies of the eight deceased persons were conveyed to the hospital’s morgue.
The Police MTTD are anticipated to conduct a thorough investigation to unravel the precise circumstances that led to the accident.
As the affected community mourns the loss of lives, they also call on government to pay the contractor to facilitate the completion of construction work on the road.
