Beleaguered Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of defunct gold buying firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM 1 has indicated that he will take back the GH₵2.5 Million he deposited with the Police Service.

According to him, the money was not intended to be sent to the Bank of Ghana as the Police Service has done.

In an interview on Kasapa FM  Wednesday, NAM 1 further stated that he only sent the cash to the police to help provide security in the disbursement of the cash to custom to prevent the disruption of public order.

“I have told the Police that I didn’t come to them to do payment on my behalf. I took the money to them so that two of my officials will come to the Police station to disburse the funds while the police provide security. So, if the Police cannot do the job we asked them to do, the best they could have done was to inform me so that I look for another place to do the disbursement. I have called the police to inform them that if they can’t offer that service for us they should give me back my money so that we can pay the over hundred people who are dying to have their money paid them so that there will be peace,” he told show host Bonohene Baffuor Awuah.

NAM1 further stated that it was also wrong for the Bank of Ghana to hand over the cash to the court.

“I have no given any money to the court and I will not do so today or tomorrow because its not before a criminal court that I will pay a debt. Debts are paid at the civil court if parties decide to go to court. Why will I take money to the criminal court when I have told the court a month ago that I am not guilty of the charges leveled against me.”

The Police on Tuesday announced that an amount of GH₵2.5 Million received from suspect Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as Nam 1 has been deposited in the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for the attention of the Court.

The police received the amount on Friday 20th October 2023, on the advice of the Office of the Attorney-General.

A statement issued by the Police said “the amount is part of investigations into petitions received from some customers of MenzGold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited, currently before the Accra High Court against suspect Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as Nam 1.”

The Police stated that the decision on the disbursement of the money would be determined by the court.
