Member of Parliament for Old Tafo constituency and former Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has applauded the heads of Free SHS across Ghana for their immense contribution towards the success of the flagship program of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The free SHS policy aims to take out the element of cost as a barrier to education. Under this policy, every Ghanaian child who attains the pass mark, as agreed for the year by the Ghana Education Service Council, will enjoy a three-year scholarship for secondary education.
Statistics since the inception of the flagship program by Ghana Education Service has indicated that there have been about 1.6 million youth who have benefited from the implementation of the Free SHS policy.
Under this new policy, the government covers all fees for students admitted to public senior and vocational high schools, including boarding fees, meals, textbooks and other charges.
The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo constituency speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast show Monday, as it is exactly six years since the inception of this policy took time to appreciate and express his sincere gratitude to headmasters and headmistresses of the various senior high schools across the country.
“If you are looking for some people who have contributed massively to the development of the Free SHS, they are the headmasters and headmistresses of the various senior high schools… In fact, you can’t take them out when it comes to the success of Free SHS,” he applauded.
Asafuah also added that these heads of schools have proven to be patriotic citizens of the country and that they must be applauded for their support and sacrifices thus far.
“I have carefully assessed the kind of sacrifices they have made for this policy in our schools and clearly they have shown patriotism,” he added.
He took the opportunity to convey his profound gratitude to these heads of schools for supporting the government in the feeding of the students by engaging in agricultural activities.
“Some of the heads of schools are now into agriculture planting for foods to support the feeding system of their school and I really commend them for the dedication, commitment and sacrifice towards this program,” he stated.
