Residents of Kyekyewere in the Atwima Mpoonua District of Ashanti have staged a massive protest to voice their dissatisfaction over the abandonment of their CHPS compound.
According to the inhabitants of the mining and farming communities, the lack of a health facility in the community has led to several deaths.
“Due to the lack of a health facility, many women in this community have lost their babies, and quite a number of pregnant women have died as well. Our CHPS compound has been abandoned; now lizards and snakes have taken over.” They said in an interview with Oyerepa News.
Anane Frimpong, the Assembly Member of the area, disclosed to Oyerepa News that several efforts have been made to get the CHPS compound into operation but have not been successful.
“I have made numerous appeals to our DCE, Mr. Charles Marfo, and the Atwima Mpoonua District Assembly to establish nurses’ quarters to start operating in the abandoned edifice, but his plea has yielded no results. He said.
The Chief of Kyekyewere, Nana Nketia Marfo, exposed that the MP of the area, Isaac Kwame Aisamah, has refused to commission the project after its completion.
“After the Member of Parliament Atwima Mponua, Isaac Kwame Aisamah, constructed the edifice in 2020, he pledged to commission it. But up until now, the CHPS compound has been left to rot in the bush. We’re suffering a lot because a lot of people have perished due to the lack of a health facility. We’re hereby appealing to the government to, as a matter of urgency, renovate the facility and build some quarters to accommodate health workers. The chief lamented.
