Clement Bonney, a popular Ghanaian actor known as Mr. Beautiful, played a significant role in the Kumawood movie industry. However, there came a time when he was suddenly sidelined by producers and directors. The exact reason for this snub was unknown, but many speculated that it was due to his affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which made him a target for Kumasi-based film producers.
In a recent interview with Martha Joyce on the Oyerepa Cinifie Showbiz, Mr. Beautiful dismissed claims that his association with the NDC led to his exclusion.
According to him, he was sidelined by Kumawood producers because of issues that arose during the production of the movie “Ama Ghana.”
During the show, Mr. Beautiful explained that he was initially asked by the movie’s producer, Fiifi Frank Garben, to play a minor role, which he agreed to for a certain fee. However, later on, he was asked to play the lead role, but the promised payment did not materialize. Frustrated, he decided to leave the set and go home.
This decision angered both the film’s director, Paul Gee, and Fiifi, which ultimately led to his sidelining by all the producers involved.
“Frank Fiifi Garben approached me to play a minor role in the Ama Ghana movie, and we agreed on a fee. However, when the shooting of the film began, he surprised me by offering me the lead role, which I gladly accepted. I requested an increase in my payment, but both Fiifi and Paul Gee, the director, started to hesitate and avoid the topic.
One day, while on set shooting some scenes, I confronted them about my payment, but they refused to give it to me. I got frustrated, and I decided to leave and went home.
Upon reaching home, I received a call from Jude Odo and Vivian Jill. I explained the situation to them, stating that if they could ensure I received my payment, I would be willing to return. Vivian took the initiative and called me again, assuring me that the issue would be resolved. Encouraged by her words, I returned to the set, and we managed to shoot the remaining scenes in the evening. This is why the wedding scene in Ama Ghana was filmed at night. Unfortunately, Paul Gee developed a grudge against me and began plotting against me. It was this incident that fueled my animosity, not any political affiliation with the NDC,” Mr Beautiful revealed these details.
