A Ghanaian bettor has criticized the majority leader in parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, for referring to Ghanaian youth as lazy due to their involvement in betting.
The government has recently announced a 10% tax on betting and lottery tickets, which will be implemented on Tuesday, August 15.
Expressing his thoughts on the 10% tax on betting, the Suame MP praised the government for making this decision, considering it a wise move.
The Suame MP is of the view that betting encourages laziness and discourages individuals from working hard.
“I don’t believe in betting. I don’t believe in luck. I believe in hard work and sweat to get money. Let’s be serious. As for me, I’m against betting coming into the country. I don’t support it because it doesn’t encourage hard work.” Kyei-Mensah-Bonus stated.
Responding to the majority leader’s comment on Oyerepa Breakfast time, Sumaila Ali said the Majority Leader has no basis to say Ghanaian youth are lazy.
“I think Ghana lacks leadership. If Osei Kyei-Mensi-Bonsu is a true leader and someone who is the majority leader, he shouldn’t have said this. Ask him about a job that he created. I don’t know what job he has established because he can’t pay the people. I can tell you, it’s because you bet that the young ones are not engaging in robbery, and you sit there and say that the youth are lazy. Has he offered someone a job only for the person to decline it? Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bosu is talking as if he doesn’t know what is going on in Ghana, as if he has called his company and I have refused to work.”
According to Ali, who has been betting for thirteen years, about 95% of the youth at the betting centre have jobs.
