The demand for a female president in Ghana has been a topic of discussion among many Ghanaians for an extended period of time.
Despite this, the call shows no signs of stopping, as prominent women such as Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and Akua Donkor have remained determined to become Ghana’s first female president. However, it appears that a new contender may emerge in 2024.
Numerous social media users have encouraged Eunice Naa Amerley Nortey, better known as Auntie Naa, a well-known radio and TV personality, to gather the courage to run for the presidency in the upcoming 2024 Ghana general elections.
These netizens believe that Auntie Naa, the host of the popular Oyerepa Afutuo radio and TV afternoon show, possesses the qualities necessary to be a successful president.
They have expressed their willingness to vote for her if she decides to run as an independent presidential candidate in the general polls.
This statement from social media users comes in response to a recent incident reported by Auntie Naa and her Oyerepa Afutuo crew. They brought attention to a case of defilement involving a minor and a 24-year-old man named Ade Akye Abia, who was subsequently arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison after the police presented the matter to court.
Queen Obaatanpa Akosua Mra III, who was displeased with Oyerepa Afutuo’s intervention in her son’s imprisonment, made a live appearance on the show on Wednesday, accompanied by her associates from Wassa Mampong.
During the show, approximately 20 associates who were outside the premises of the Kumasi-based media house expressed their dissatisfaction through insults and threatened Auntie Naa.
However, over 200 viewers of the show, mainly Kumasi Adum traders, stormed the Oyerepa TV/Radio station to confront the defiant residents of Wassa Mampong. Fortunately, the station’s management and the police were able to handle the situation.
Some social media users who saw the footage online criticized the Wassa Mampong Queen Mother and her entourage for their insubordination.
On the other hand, these netizens praised Auntie Naa for her commendable work and urged her to run for President in the upcoming general elections.
Taken to Oyerepa Radio and Oyerepa Live Facebook pages, the users posted;
Robert Allotey: “AUNTIE NAA SHOULD STAND AS AN INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FOR THE NEXT COMING ELECTIONS”

The demand for a female president in Ghana remains strong, and Auntie Naa has emerged as a potential candidate for the 2024 elections. Her commitment to addressing important issues and her ability to connect with the public through her radio and TV program have garnered significant support from social media users. It will be interesting to see if Auntie Naa decides to take on the challenge and make history as Ghana’s first female president.
