The former longest-serving District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nsuta Mampong and former President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Mr Ebenezer Akuokor Frimpong, has expressed his view that the events that took place in Assin North were simply an abuse of power.
Prior to the bye-election, contractors were observed asphalting and improving certain roads within the Assin North constituency. Many political advocates have criticized this action, describing it as a form of vote-buying by the government and abuse of power.
According to the former DCE, carrying out development projects in Assin North during the bye-election was inappropriate.
During an interview on the Oyerepa Breakfast show, Monday, with Sometymer Otuo Acheampong, the former NALAG President explained that the NPP’s sole focus was on winning the seat, rather than genuinely developing the constituency.
He believes that this mindset significantly contributed to their loss in the election.
“Are you telling me the government doesn’t have any plan for developmental projects at the constituency how can you deceive the people of Assin North just because you wanted to win the seat?” he stated.
“This was just an abuse of incumbency ” he added.
Meanwhile, just days after the bye-election it was reported that the contractor and the machines on some parts of the constituency were moved from site.
