On Tuesday, June 27th, over 40,000 voters residing in the Assin North constituency of the Central Region will exercise their democratic right to elect their next representative in Parliament.
The three candidates competing for the seat are James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
As the election day unfolds, the eyes of the nation will be on Assin North, as the outcome of this election will have a significant impact on the political landscape of Ghana.
The Electoral Commission (EC) scheduled the by-election for June 27 following the nullification of the 2020 parliamentary election won by Mr Quayson.
The Supreme Court ordered Parliament to expunge Mr Quayson’s name from its records after it found that he held dual citizenship at the time of filing his nomination forms.
The NDC has since re-nominated Mr. Quayson for the by-election.
All the candidates are hopeful of winning the election.
