Former Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Catherine Afeku, has chastised the campaign team of flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, over the picture of his branded pickups.
A video of a convoy of pickup trucks displaying the picture of Vice President (VP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia went viral on social media days ago.
In reaction to the photos of Bawumia-branded pickups on Oyerepa Break Fast Time, Thursday, May 18, 2023, Catherine Afeku condemned the actions of Bawumia’s campaign team and called for their dismissal.
“The situation we’re in now is that pensioners are picketing at the finance ministry over their bonds. Those who love the second gentleman of the land are causing him harm. The anger in the people who will see this pickup will not go against the candidate, but it is the party that will suffer, so for me, I will say the handlers are cuffed. Because of the situation now, people are not in the mood to see party paraphernalia.”
“There’s no one who will campaign without a car, but the timing and optics are terrible. Those who are handling Bawumia’s campaign need to be sacked because that picture will cause more harm to our general party’s outlook.” The former minister told Kwesi Parker-Wilson, host of the show.
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set November 4, 2023, as the date for its presidential primaries to select a flag bearer for the general election in 2024.
The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, is a major contender in the NPP’s flagbearership contest, joining other competitors such as Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen, Afriyie Akoto, and Kwabena Agyapong.
