A teenager named only known as Munira has disclosed that her biological mother threatened to poison her if she divorced a man she has been compelled to marry.
Appearing on Oyerepa Afutuo Tuesday, the tiny young girl whose parents claimed to be 20 years revealed that, she was forced to marry a man Kofi at the age of 17 years.
She said, at the time the man already had a wife. The wife of Kofi once called and threatened her.
According to Munira, Kofi always maltreated her, thus; he forces her into bed and mostly beat her. For this reason, she told her parents to seek divorce but her mother threatened that, if she dared left the man, she would poison her.
Munira’s parents Baba Musah and Nefisa who also appeared on the show stated, their daughter is 20 years and was given to marriage at age 18. They emphatically stated that there is no way their daughter would be allowed to divorce the man, (Kofi) because they did not force her. She (Munira) personally brought him (Kofi) and accepted that she will marry him despite, advising her of the consequence of marriage as well questioning her love for him several times.
“There’s no way my daughter (Munira) is going to divorce her husband. Over my dead body will this happen…” Baba Musah told, MFK, the host of the show.
He added that, in their religion (Islam) and culture, there’s no way a woman will bring a man home for marriage and later on seek divorce.
