Rapper Yaa Pono claims MadTime boss Kwaw Kese pulled him into a feud with Sarkodie because he didn’t understand the lyrics to the song “YARD.”
Yaa Pono dropped a track titled ‘Yard’ on January 25, 2023, which music fans and rapper Kwaw Kese characterized as a diss song for Sarkodie.
Yaa Pono boasted about his skills in the song, claiming to be the boss of rap in Tema. He boasted about playing shows every weekend and included a question about when we started featuring the dead?
However, in an interview with Kingdom FM, Yaa Pono disclosed that his question in the song was intended to make it clear that, indeed, Sarkodie was the first Ghanaian artist to feature a deceased person so that it can be kept in the music archives for subsequent generations to learn and not to disrespect him as some have assumed.
“In case after some years I die, or a legend dies and 100 years later, someone features him, then they will ask, since when, and the response will be Sarkodie started it. Is that an insult?” Yaa Pono quizzed.
“I’m lyrically good so sometimes after writing my song I have to break it down before releasing it. Sometimes I speak in proverbs ad those who interpret do not get it well but then I take it cool like that. Kwaw Kese was angry because he thought I had attacked Sarkodie on that his feature with Bob Marley because in the song I said that, since when did we start to feature the dead, which I think is no insult.” Yaa Pono explained.
The rapper also wondered why people always attack him when he tries to praise himself in his rap. To him, there is no limit to lyrics in rap music hence people must try to understand his kind of music.
