The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has eulogized the paramount chief of Ashanti-Mampong (Mamponghene) Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, for his tremendous efforts in the fight against illegal mining in his jurisdiction.
The Occupant of the Silver Stool of Asanteman, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II had already warned residents to stay away from galamsey, thus “say no to galamsey in Mampong Traditional Area”.
Speaking at the Ashanti-Mampong palace during the commemoration of Akwasidae Festival by the Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, on Sunday, February 5 2023, the minister stated that, the Mamponghene’s efforts in fighting the menace are immeasurable.
He said the move by the Duke of Ashanti-Mampong worth much appreciation.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the NPP government in general, I like to show much appreciation to Nana Mamponghene for his tremendous efforts in fighting against gaalamsey. He has always stood behind me, gave me advice, on how to fight the menace. He’s very knowledgeable in the fight against the fight. He has ensured that no illegal mining is taking place in Mampong and its environs.”
“We’re here today, me together with my wife, my deputy (Benito Owusu Bio) and my entourage to show appreciation to Nana Mamponhene for his massive contribution to the canker’s fight.” Mr Jinapor added.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources however called for unity amongst Ghanaians irrespective of their political affiliations.
“We’re pleading for unity because we’re one people…. Our family was in existence before the emergence of NPP and NDC. We’re one family, brothers as well as friends.” He stated.
