Professor Solomon Nunoo, President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, has warned the government not to touch their monies if it fails to meet with the association to discuss the government’s debt restructuring, which would affect their pension monies.
Speaking with Akua Asieduwaa on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Prof. Solomon said, “It is not fair that the government refuses to pay pensioners what they are owed for reasons that are not their fault.” Yet, the government has decided to engage various stakeholders and explain in detail what touching their pension monies would mean and the implications that may come with it.
“The government should not touch pensioners’ monies if they fail to engage the various labor unions,” he stated emphatically.
The UTAG and other labor unions have given the government a one-week ultimatum to start negotiations with them or embark on an indefinite strike.
