The chairman of the Poultry Farmers Association in Afigya Kwabre has revealed that it is expensive to produce poultry in Ghana and that farmers receive little support from the government.
Speaking to Akua Asieduwaa on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, he added that this has resulted in many poultry farmers falling back from farming as they collect more losses than gains.
“Money for poultry feed, especially, is expensive,” he lamented
John Senya also said the government has not been of great help to farmers in the field. He said there are so many policies on paper for animal farming in Ghana, but the problem is implementation.
He believes that if government is able to implement such policies, poultry farming could thrive well in the country and bring huge returns to the government and the country.
Mr. Senya, on the other hand, revealed that the price of poultry will rise this Christmas but there will be enough to celebrate the festivitie.
“There are enough fowls on the market, but prices are expensive due to the high production. A fowl can be sold for between 100 and 120 Ghana cedis.
