At least 14 students from Kumasi’s Great Faith Rockery School are being treated at two separate hospitals after their school bus was involved in an incident.
As per witnesses, the bus driver lost control of the steering wheel and spun into a ditch near the Subin River on the Asokwa-Ahodwo road.
Four of the students on the bus were taken to a private hospital in Ahodwo, while the remaining ten are being treated at the Asokwa Children’s Hospital.
Dr Fred Fonjang, a medical doctor at Asokwa Children’s Hospital, said the kids are safe.
Six of the students had minor injuries, according to him.
“After examination, clinically they are stable but four of them had minor injuries so we are planning to detain the four, do a series of X-rays and then hopefully they will be fine,” he explained.
Seidu Innusah, a taxi driver who assisted in transporting four other children to a private hospital in Ahodwo, said the children were safe.
People at the scene who assisted at the incident site urged school administrators to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
“Though an accident can occur at any time, regular maintenance can avoid such incidents,” said one eyewitness.
