The Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, has hinted that the NPP government and the Electoral Commission want to create additional constituencies as a strategy to win the upcoming 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview with Kwesi Parker on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Banda MP disclosed that the 2024 election would be conducted with 300 constituencies.
“As part of NPP’s plans to retain power, the government is forcing the EC to create additional constituencies to increase their votes in the incoming 2024 elections. The SALL constituency will come together with other constituencies.
“They started this in 2017 and the plan is to create 25 new constituencies to make a total of 300 constituencies.” He said.
He explained that the law does not allow the creation of a district with a constituency, but the government has created a SALL district. They are waiting for the EC to create the other 24 before they bring it to parliament.
The Banda MP said despite the current economic hardships, the government is more focused on “breaking the 8” come in the 2024 elections instead of giving attention to the sick economy of the country.
