Ghanaian Highlife/Afro-pop singer, Baah Takyi, popularly known on stage as Obibini Takyi Jnr has raised concerns about the dominance of Nigerian music in the country.
According to him, Ghanaians have thrown away their own and have embraced foreign music which is collapsing the Ghana music industry.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with MFK on ‘Oyerepa Breakfast Time’s Entertainment Review the ‘Sika No Ashi’ Hitmaker stated that the country should enact laws to ban the frequent play of Nigerians’ music in pubs, hotels, Radio/TV stations.
He explained that Nigerians have made such laws which bare the play of foreign music so there is a need for Ghana to also do the same.
“Let’s enact laws like what the Nigerians have done because there’s no way you will visit a pub or any music centre in Nigeria where they will play about 3 or 4 Ghanaian songs but this country , go to pubs, parties, they only play about 2 Ghanaian songs, the rest are Nigerian songs, which is very sad.” Obibini Takyi Jnr said.
He said Ghanaians should support artists to take the country to the international level.
“Ghana music industry is collapsing so let’s support our own, let’s not let others take advantage of us.”
