Illegal mining activities (Galamsey) in Ghana have resulted in the serious degradation of our vegetation, land and pollution of major water bodies in recent years. Many researchers have predicted the possibility of Ghana importing water in some years to come.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Secretary of the World Cocoa Farmers’ Organization, (WCFO), Moses Djan Asiedu, revealed that farmers have resorted to using sachet water when spraying their cocoa farms.
“Farmers are finding it difficult to get water for their farming. The farmer has to use agrochemicals to spray his cocoa, but the galamsey has spoiled the water bodies in some communities, so the farmers buy sachet water to mix their chemicals for spraying. He, however, urged Ghanaians to rise up and fight the galamsey menace to avoid danger in the future.
