Charles Agbeve, Member of Parliament, MP, for Agotime-Ziope Constituency in the Volta Region has indicated that Akufo-Addo’s government Agenda 111 Hospital Projects would be completed in 2030.
Recall that, President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, August 17, launched the Agenda 111 project.
The project he said will cover the design, procurement, construction, equipping and commissioning of 111 District Hospitals, 6 Regional Hospitals in newly created regions, as well as 1 Regional Hospital in the Western Region, 2 Psychiatric Hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale and a redeveloped Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The objective of the project is to ensure that Ghanaians nationwide have access to quality healthcare services and with the National Health Insurance Scheme, boost the provision of healthcare infrastructure and financial accessibility to healthcare.
The projects at an estimated cost of $1.7 billion according to President Akufo-Addo are expected to be completed in June 2025.
However, Charles Agbeve who is an NDC, ranking member of the Health Committee of Parliament believes that there is more to the construction and the completion of the projects.
Speaking to Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Tuesday August 17, 2022, he disclosed that, the Agenda 111 projects would be completed in 2030 and not 2025 as President Akufo-Addo has projected.
“Honestly speaking agenda 111 projects if you ask me will be completed in 2030.”
Agbeve explained that the Nana Addo administration will need about GHc17 Billion to complete the projects.
According to him, the country has incurred many debts so the IMF money of $3 Billion will be insufficient to fix the country’s debts not to even talk about building 111 hospitals.
“I like these projects, I’m a beneficiary but let’s be real, we can not accommodate this expenditure. The agenad111 projects can’t be completed anytime soon.”
He added that the operationalisation of the projects alone after completion will take at least 2 years.
“Even if by 2025 you’ve completed the 101 district hospital projects, the operationalisation will take you 1 to 2 years. You may need equipment, nurses, re-alignment, money for start-up etc. In fact, you will need not less than 1 to 2 years to operationalise.” The Agotime-Ziope lawmaker told Parker Wilson, host of the show.
