The Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency who doubles as the majority leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs,  Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has expressed joy over the
parliamentary approval of €135 million to be used to finance the design and construction of phase one of the Suame Interchange and ancillary road projects in his constituency.

Traffic at the Suame roundabout and ancillary roads has become unbearable hence the need for the Interchange in order to enhance the free flow of traffic in the area.

This development comes after the member of Parliament (MP) for the area was booed by some angry residents over the poor state of roads in the area about a week ago.

Speaking to the MP on Oyerepa Breakfast Show hosted by Nana Yaw Mensah Joel, the majority leader expressed his elation over the current development.

He indicated that the project is expected to be completed in 36 months and will be the second largest in the country, stating that it will not only be beneficial to the Ashanti region but to other neighbouring regions as well.

“I believe we’re all happy to hear this good news. It was actually the news I was going to break to my constituents and unfortunately, they couldn’t listen to me and I think we all know what happened. So this interchange isn’t a mirage, it is something we are going to do to benefit, not only the Ashanti region and the people of Suame but those coming from the 5 regions in the North, the Central, Western and Bono regions. It will be the second largest in the country,“ he explained.

Meanwhile, when asked about the Boankra inland Port project, he said the construction of the project is set to commence in August and will be completed in order to create jobs for the Youth in the Region. Answering a question on whether or not the railway line will be ready to help the smooth operation of the Port, he sounded pessimistic, saying the works on the railway line are very huge and will cost the government 5 Billion USD to be able to complete it. Therefore the possibility of constructing the double gauge line soon is low.

“You see the rails that are supposed to be constructed from Accra to Ejisu is a double gauge rail and it is quite expensive. But we are in talks with some private developers to make it a BOT project so let’s be hopeful. But in the meantime, Cargos will convey the goods from Accra to the Port, the Suame lawmaker stated.
