The Chairman of the parliamentary select committee on constitution, legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi has said the Minority in Parliament led by Muntaka Mubarak is threatening to block the passage of government bills if the anti-LGBTQI bill is not worked on with dispatch in the house.
The Chairman of the committee working on the Anti-LGBTQI Bill has been accused of deliberately slowing down work on it with no clear sign of progress more than a year after its introduction.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem Central stated that, it is clear sabotage from the minority to say that they will not help pass bills of the government should the anti LGBTQI bill is not passed.
He said the Minority Chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak is trying to create an impression that the chairman of the Committee and for that matter, the NPP government is trying to delay the passage of the anti LGBTQI bill.
“You see, what Muntaka said yesterday was disgusting, it’s clear sabotage of government business. We do not use a day or three days to enact laws, it has to go through process before we send our report. He is trying to create an impression that the chairman of the committee is delaying the bill” he said.
The Asante Akyem Central MP further entreated Ghanaians to be patient with the committee on the bill because they are not sleeping on the bill, they are working on it to make sure they get the right thing done.
“We should be patient with the bill, let’s not rush into things, we have first reading, second reading, then the consideration stage before we submit our report,“ he added.
He also accused the media of taking stands in the passage of the bill, saying such an act does not help matters.
