The Ashanti Regional Manager for the Forestry Commission, Mr. Augustine Kofi Gyedu has said, his outfit is working tirelesly to end illegall logging.
He has threatened to legally deal with invaders of the various forest reserves of the region.
Speaking to the media, Mr Gyedu indocated that, it is problematic how some people have taken the law into their own hands to lumber in the various forests reserves.
He said, the forestry commission is workig assidously to fight againts these illegal loggers.
“A very disturbing information reaching our outfit is that most people have taken the law into their own hands to cut down trees. I want to send a word of caution to them that, it’s against our laws.”
He however cautioned that, no individual has the mandate to cut down trees, adding that, illegal loggers will severly be dealt with if they are caught.
You don’t have any right to cut down trees indiscriminately. Even if the trees on your land are disturbing, you have no right to cut them, unless you contact the forestry commission and we may know how to go by it.” Mr Gyedu declared.
