Minister of Roads and Highways Kwasi Amoako Atta has said it is the expectation of the government that the E-levy will be passed to generate revenue to construct roads and other projects.
“The government in its wisdom has proposed the passage of the e-levy to bring in more revenue to build the road infrastructure of our country for all of us.
“So the government is looking forward to the passage of the E-levy that will bring in greater revenue, that will be securitized and use to raise bonds if possible,” he said on the floor of the House on Friday March 4.
Meanwhile, the government is currently holding townhall meetings to sensitize the public on the E-levy proposal.
At the townahll meeting in Ho on Friday March 4, the Minister of Railways Development, John Peter Amewu, said that in order to witness the needed development in Ghana, everyone especially persons in the informal sector must contribute to the government’s revenue generation for that development.
This informed the introduction of the E-levy, he said.
“Politics is about development and the best way to ensure the development we seek is getting the informal sector to all contribute to the revenue generation,” he said.
The Minority in Parliament has rejected the proposal because they believe it will worsen the plight of Ghanaians.
