A six-year-old boy, Sylvester Owusu, is feared to have drowned after reportedly falling into the Anikoko River during a heavy downpour on Saturday, May 18.
The incident occurred along the Dunkwa-Aggrey Road in the Central Region.
According to family members, Sylvester had been sent on an errand by his grandmother and was returning home from Zongo Market to Oteng Crescent when the tragedy occurred.
While attempting to cross a culvert over the river, he is believed to have slipped and been swept away by the fast-moving floodwaters.
The torrential rain, which began around 3:00 p.m. and lasted until 7:00 p.m., caused significant flooding in parts of the municipality. Rising water levels made the Anikoko River and its surroundings particularly hazardous.
Local volunteers and emergency responders launched a search operation at dawn on Sunday, but as of the latest update, no trace of the boy has been found. He remains missing.
Municipal authorities have issued a public advisory urging residents to take extra precautions during and after periods of heavy rainfall, particularly when navigating flood-prone areas.
