A primary school teacher at Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti Region has been butchered for allegedly pursuing another man’s girlfriend.
The 37 year-old victim, Maxwell Opoku, was reportedly attacked by an unidentified masked man on the night of July 11, 2023. Opoku is currently fighting for his life at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Opoku, who worked as a teacher at Saint Augustin R/C Junior High School in Agogo, was assaulted shortly after meeting a 22-year-old seamstress near the school at around 9:00 p.m. on that fateful day.
According to a resident who spoke to the media, the teacher’s screams of pain alerted others to the scene.
“We heard the teacher screaming in pain, crying that someone was killing him. Those who rushed to the scene discovered him in a pool of blood. The suspect had inflicted multiple machete wounds on him, including his head, hands, and other parts of the body.
“We understand the teacher was attacked minutes after meeting a young seamstress in the area, a girl from whom he has reportedly received threats from someone who is yet to be identified”, he explained.
The Assembly member for Agogo Obuase Electoral Area, Enock Asiedu, confirmed the incident and stated that the police have initiated an investigation.
He added that the girl involved in the incident has been apprehended by the police to aid in their investigation.
