A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday midnight when a galamsey pit collapsed at Twifo Mampong in the Twifo Atti-District (Twifo Praso) in the central region resulting in the deaths of 3 people.
Three others who sustained injuries are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at the Twifo Praso Government Hospital.
The collapse happened when the group went to the site at midnight on Wednesday for their usual galamsey activities.
According to eyewitnesses and the survivor, the group wasn’t supposed to work on Wednesday due to ritual and customs demands. Despite this, the 7 people decided to proceed with work, leading to the pit collapse.
The survivor reportedly came to town to inform the community and draw attention to the incident.
