A 25-year-old man, Godfred Bobi, has died in a galamsay pit at Denkyira Brofoyedu in the Central Region.
He lost his life after several illegal miners entered the galamsey site to mine for gold.
It’s however unclear how the deceased fell into the pit which is full of water.
According to information gathered by Kasapa News, nine persons have died in the galamsey pit within one week.
Residents suspect these persons were killed and intentionally dumped into the pit by their killers.
The deceased persons had gone missing but later found dead in the galamsey pit.
In an interview with Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan, Francis Gyibi Dacosta, kyidomhene of Denkyira Brofoyedu suspected foul play and pointed fingers at the concession owner, alleging that he sent machomen to kill the victim and dump him in the pit.
He is demanding justice for the victims, urging the authorities to hold the concession owner accountable if the allegations of foul play are proven true.
He argued that this incident highlights the dangers associated with illegal mining activities and the need for stricter regulations and enforcement.
Meanwhile, the concession owner has been arrested by Dunkwa-on-Offin Divisional Police Command for investigation and the body of the deceased has been deposited at Dunkwa Municipal Government Hospital for autopsy and Preservation.
