The Ashanti Regional Communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sakina Oforiwaa, has emphasized the significant impact the party’s proposed 24-hour economy policy will have on all Ghanaians.
Former President of Ghana Mr. John Dramani Mahama, NDC flag bearer, recently announced plans to implement a 24-hour economy if elected president. This policy has sparked intense economic and political discussions in Ghana and beyond, with debates on its feasibility and potential impact.
While some critics, particularly members of the opposing party, NPP, have questioned the practicality of the policy and suggested that its benefits would only be felt in urban areas, Sakina Oforiwaa holds a different perspective.
During a panel discussion on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, she explained that many people in the country have yet to fully grasp the concept of a 24-hour economy and its broader implications.
Oforiwaa emphasized that this policy would not only benefit urban residents but also extend its advantages to all regions of the country.
She said, should the NDC win power in the upcoming 2024 elections, its government will partner with all companies to expand their operations, allowing for night shifts and creating job opportunities for youth from rural areas
“The 24-hour economy will not only focus on urban centres but will also bring benefits to people in rural areas. It has been observed that many individuals migrate from rural areas to cities in search of employment opportunities. In light of this, the NDC plans to collaborate with companies to expand their operations, allowing for night shifts and creating job opportunities for youth from rural areas.” Sakina emphasized.
