A 21-year-old mobile money vendor, Desmond Agdza, has tragically lost his life after being shot by suspected armed robbers at Quarters Junction, a suburb of Ngleshie Amamfrom in the Ga South Municipality.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 7:00 p.m. while Desmond was on his way home. Eyewitnesses told journalist Nana Ansah that two men, believed to be the assailants, were earlier seen loitering near the area on a motorbike and sitting on a fence.
Shortly afterwards, news broke that Desmond had been attacked. According to the eyewitnesses, the robbers demanded his bag. When he refused to hand it over, they shot him in the leg, and after a brief struggle, shot him again in the back before fleeing with the bag.
Desmond was rushed to the Amamfrom Polyclinic, where he was pronounced dead.
Grieving relatives of the deceased are now calling on the government to impose a ban on the use of motorbikes in the area, which they believe are being used frequently by criminals. They are also appealing for increased police presence and security measures in Ngleshie Amamfrom and its surrounding communities to help prevent future tragedies.
