Former President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Ebenezer Ekoako Frimpong says the impending 2024 General elections won’t be peaceful if the families of people who lost their lives in the 2020 polls are not compensated.
A total of eight lives, including three minors, were lost during the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, a report by the Ghana police.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, the former NALAG president said, the families of those who died are in agony.
According to him, the families must be compensated to at least calm them down.
“The families of those who lost their lives in 2020 polls must be compensated. Because if we don’t compensate them, I don’t think the 2024 polls will be peaceful.” He stated.
Ekoako who is advocating for the dead said, President Akufo-Addo must act fast in order to let peace prevail in the country.
Mo Ibrahim Foundation has indicated that the 2020 polls incidents have declined Ghana’s peaceful elections.
But Ekoako believes if the perpetrators are arrested and punished, the country will enjoy its peace.
“If we’re talking about peaceful elections in the world, Ghana is omitted.”
