The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has called on all Ghanaians to exercise restraint and adhere to the law as the December 7 general elections approach.
At a recent meeting with executives from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso East and Ayawaso North constituencies, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arhin Kwasi Annor, urged political leaders to act responsibly and guide their supporters toward lawful conduct.
He highlighted that peace is crucial for a smooth election process.
DCOP Annor also clarified that the police derive no satisfaction from making arrests, aiming to dispel any perception of bias in law enforcement.
This meeting with NPP and NDC leaders forms part of a broader effort by the police to collaborate with political stakeholders ahead of the election.
He encouraged party leaders to use their influence to promote respect for the law among their members, stressing that a peaceful election is in the best interest of both political parties and the nation.
“Let us conduct ourselves properly. We live in a country governed by laws and regulations, and everyone has a duty to respect these laws. If you follow the law, you will have no issues with the police,” DCOP Annor said.
“However, if you choose otherwise, that’s where issues arise. No one here takes pleasure in punishing others. You will not be arrested unless an offense has been committed. So please, let’s respect the laws and stay within their bounds.”
