Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace in Ghana as the 2024 general elections approach.
He shared this commitment during a visit from the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), who called on him in Parliament to advocate for peace and unity in the lead-up to the election.
The GNACOPS delegation, comprising teachers and students from various private schools, was led by the National Executive Director, Obento Nana Kwasi Gyetuah.
They urged the Speaker to leverage his influence during this pivotal time to support a peaceful election period, commending his dedication and the example he sets in promoting peaceful coexistence as a cornerstone of democracy.
“I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation,” Speaker Bagbin assured.
He emphasized his pledge to ensure free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections.
As part of Ghana’s 30-year parliamentary democracy celebrations, he mentioned organizing a seminar in Tamale, where experts highlighted the importance of peace for societal well-being.
The Speaker also highlighted the Democracy Cup initiative, which uses the nation’s passion for football to spread messages of peace.
Mr. Bagbin praised GNACOPS for their contribution to the peace initiative and for instilling the values of peace in young learners, calling them the future leaders of Ghana.
“The foundation of life is peace,” he said.
