Ebenezer Nyagble Dzikunu, Ghana’s 2024 Best Fish Farmer, and five other award winners claim the government allegedly failed to deliver their prizes, sparking disappointment and outrage among farmers.
In an exclusive interview, Mr. Dzikunu revealed that he was promised a JAC 3-tonne truck as part of his award, but despite winning in December 2024, the Sector Minister has yet to hand over the vehicle.
Five other farmers, including Victoria Atsa, National Best Fish Processor of the Year, and Christopher Ackon, National Best Marine Fisherman, are facing similar situations.

“We were told that the awards would be delivered sooner than later, but it’s been months and we’ve heard nothing,” Mr. Dzikunu said. “The Minister has even visited my farm, but when it comes to giving us what we were promised, there’s silence.”
The farmers were initially told to collect their awards on February 12, but upon arrival, they were asked to complete further documentation, which has led to a standstill.
According to them, the Sector Minister is reportedly questioning why the current administration should bear the burden of previous governments.
With less than a month to go before the next National Farmers Awards, the six farmers are left with only their certificates, a stark reminder of the government’s unfulfilled promises.
