A group call itself My Vote My Voice, has raised concerns about the accuracy of the 2020 election results declared by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. The group’s convenor, Kojo Gold Ahinful, claims that calculations done by the group in the Jomoro constituency revealed discrepancies with the Electoral Commission’s pink sheets.
Ahinful emphasized the need for the Electoral Commission to be extra vigilant in the upcoming general elections to redeem their image. He also urged polling agents to be vigilant during the calculation period, as a single digit change can alter the outcome.
The group’s concerns highlight the importance of transparency and accuracy in Ghana’s electoral process.
The Electoral Commission (EC) plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. The EC is responsible for organizing and supervising elections in Ghana, and its independence is guaranteed by the 1992 Ghana Constitution.
To address concerns about transparency and fairness, proactive measures must be taken to prevent potential manipulation of the electoral process. This includes securing polling centers, protecting the vote, preventing impersonation, and ensuring the accurate counting and recording of votes.
Polling agents play a critical role in protecting the votes of all political parties, and the EC must be extra vigilant before, during, and after the elections to prevent any manipulation of the results.
To prevent any suspicious activities, especially during the counting process at night, it’s crucial to ensure that polling centers are well-lit. Arranging for generators or alternative lighting systems before 5:00 pm on voting day can help achieve this.
Party agents must be employed to protect the votes of all political parties, especially those that may not have agents present. It’s also essential to verify the number of voters and ensure that it matches the total number of ballots cast.
According to the group, EC must be extra vigilant before, during, and after the elections to prevent any manipulation of the results. The commission must also ensure that all political parties have access to the necessary information and resources to participate fairly in the elections.
By taking these measures, Ghana can ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, reflecting its reputation as a beacon of African democracy.
