The Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region has arrested 15 individuals, including 12 Nigerian nationals and a 15-year-old girl, for their alleged involvement in human trafficking, operating a brothel, and engaging in prostitution in Koforidua.
A landlord has also been apprehended for allegedly allowing his property to be used for the unlawful activities.
The arrests were triggered by a complaint filed on Thursday, February 6, 2026, by a 30-year-old Nigerian woman residing in Nsukwao, Koforidua. The woman, who is engaged in commercial sex work, accused her alleged madam, identified as Christabel Simon Mobday, of trafficking her from Nigeria to Ghana for the purpose of prostitution.
According to police, the complainant told investigators that she had been directed to make GH¢400 from sex work but managed to raise only GH¢250. She alleged that her madam and an accomplice, Simon Kwarteng, refused to accept the amount and physically assaulted her for failing to meet the target.
Speaking to the media, the New Juaben South Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Ransford Nsiah, said Christabel Simon Mobday was later arrested at Debiasem, a suburb of New Juaben, after police investigations.
A subsequent operation led officers to a suspected brothel operating on a property owned by Omari Gyamfi. Twelve Nigerian women, including the 15-year-old, were found at the premises and are believed to have been involved in prostitution.
The Crime Officer for the New Juaben South Municipality, ASP Augustine Kusi Asante, emphasised that it is a criminal offence under Ghanaian law for minors to engage in prostitution.
He also cautioned landlords in the municipality against renting out their properties for illegal activities, including prostitution.
Police have called on the public to report suspected cases of human trafficking, child abuse, and related crimes to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
